先月、米国滞在中学校の先生に仏教の話をする機会がありました。
ラスベガスという世界中の欲が渦巻いていそうな街でお坊さんとなり、荒行堂という清浄の限界に挑む修行を修めたという話に、まるで泥の中から蓮華が咲く様だと、皆大変驚き興味をもって話を聞いてもらえました。そこに少しでも仏教を感じて頂ければ幸いです。
いずれ、私がもっと先生方に話をする機会があれば、そのうちそれを生徒達にも話してくれるかもしれません。そうすれば、もっともっと大勢の方に仏様の教えを広げることができ、米国でも少しずつ仏教的な態度や行動が広がるのではないでしょうか。
微力ではありますが、私の行動でアメリカのみんなの目を覚まさせることができればと願っています。
During my stay in America last month, I was given the opportunity to talk to Social Studies teachers about Buddhism, including my experience in Aragyo, which amazed everyone. Some thought that I was crazy to do such a practice. Americans are not used to pushing themselves to the limit, they rather take the easy path. My hope is that I can inspire these teachers to broaden their horizons.
In the future, I may do more lectures to teachers, which may lead to talking in front of their class about my experiences. This is one way to spread the message of the Buddha to a greater audience and influence them to act according to Buddhist principles. I may even bring my bokken to wake them up!
