コラム ネットの時代
仏教に興味を持っているアメリカ人はネットで答えを見つけようとすることが多く、今やネットは布教のための大切なツールです。特に米国の広大な国土の割に日蓮宗寺院はまだ少ないため、一部の寺院では毎週日曜の法要に遠方からでも参加できるよう、ネットカメラで中継しています。
パソコンの画面では不十分かもしれません。ですが、これは法要に参加して、どんなことをするのか確認し、法要に馴染んでもらうための数少ない方法です。お寺に馴染んでいれば、将来機会ができたとき、お寺に来てもらうこともできます。
できれば私も、いずれ自坊でネット中継をしたいと考えています。そうなれば、日本からも私の法要に参加してもらえます。是非一緒にお題目をお唱えしましょう。
Many people are curious about Buddhism and turn to the internet for answers. Thus it is a great tool to use for propagation. Since the US is vast and Nichiren Shu Temples are not yet established everywhere, some temples have set up webcams to broadcast Sunday Service so that those who live far away can partake in Sunday Service.
Though looking at a computer screen is not ideal, at least this is one way that others can participate and see regular service so that they can become accustomed to what goes on. In the future when they have a chance, they can come visit the temple in person.
I hope to set up my own webcam someday. Maybe you can watch my service from Japan.
